Summer School for Designing a Society
July 2008

The Summer School is hosted by the Gesundheit! Institute in West Virginia, the proposed site for a free hospital based on the politics of fun and friendship. Sessions will include work on designing a society in groups, playing attention to language, movement-based theater, ecological design, and guest appearances by Patch Adams of the Gesundheit Institute, and workshops with Qilo and Andrea of the Change of State Performance Project.
Class size: 20 students.
Tuition: $1200. Four Susie Krabacher Hope Scholarships available.

Fall Semester 2008

September 2 - December 12, 2008 -- see registration page
The Fall Semester 2008 will be hosted at the Herbert Brun House and at the Independent Media Center in Urbana, Illinois. Located downtown, this space is shared by a radio station, a post office, an artists' collective, and other social organizations. In addition to designing a society, courses will include Politics of Representation with Maria Isabel Silva, and a course on composing activism in time with Mark Enslin.
Tuition: $3500. Sliding scale will be determined for those who need assistance.

School for Designing a Society
Spring Semester 2009

January 26 - April 24, 2009
Continuing education in Social Design, the Spring Semester has a stronger emphasis on independent projects. The Fall Semester is designed by a group of school organizers, by the end of the fall the Spring Semester will be organized by a group of designers. Students may not enroll in the Spring Semester without prior enrollment in the School for Designing a Society. Some projects of previous years have focused on permaculture gardens, experimental social living, theater compositions, media production...
Tuition: free for returning students.
